GreenDelta HyNOx 22 N Thruster under cacuum conditions at DLR Institute of Space Propulsion

The HyNOx Technology

HyNOx utilizes nitrous oxide (N2O) and ethane (C2H6) as bipropellant. The benefits are:

  • Non-toxic components and simple handling
  • Low-cost, easily available substances
  • Isp up to 300 s
  • Self-pressurized propulsion systems
  • Development on nitrous oxide based green propellants started in 2014, initially with focus on monopropellants

The HIP_11 Technology

Hypergolic ignition of HIP_11, developed at DLR Lampoldshausen

HIP_11 is a novel patented hypergolic propellant based on hydrogen peroxide and an ionic liquid fuel.

HIP_11 features:

  • Fast and reliable hypergolic ignition
  • Significantly reduced toxicity compared to conventional hypergolic propellants
  • Isp up to 310 s
  • Developed at DLR Institute of Space Propulsion by Felix during his PhD project since 2017
  • First successful demonstration of a hypergolic propellant based on an ionic liquid and hydrogen peroxide in a rocket thruster
